There are moments in a project when you realize it became bigger than the original idea.
That is what this series became for me.
The Sound of the West Virginia Line: County Sheriffs started as a mission to honor the sheriff’s departments of West Virginia, one county at a time. What began as a single idea turned into a full statewide body of work built around the people, places, roads, history, and pride that make each county what it is.
Now, that journey is complete.
All 55 county sheriff songs have been written, recorded, and released as part of this series.
That means every county in West Virginia now has its place in The Sound of the West Virginia Line.
This series was never about making generic songs with county names dropped into them. The goal was always to make each song feel like home to the people who live there. I wanted these songs to sound like the counties they represent, to reflect their backroads, communities, history, landmarks, and the men and women who serve them.
That mattered to me from the start, and it matters even more now that the full collection is finished.
There is something special about looking back at the completed series and seeing all 55 counties represented. Every song carries its own identity, but together they tell a much bigger story. They tell the story of West Virginia. They tell the story of service, grit, family, pride, sacrifice, and home.
This project also became proof of something I’ve believed for a long time: music rooted in real places and real people still matters.
West Virginia deserves songs that sound like West Virginia.
The people who wear the badge in these counties deserve to be honored with something built carefully, respectfully, and truthfully. The communities behind them deserve to hear themselves in the music too.
That is what I set out to do with this series.
Completing The Sound of the West Virginia Line: County Sheriffs is a milestone I’m proud of, but it also feels like more than just a milestone. It feels like a body of work that now stands on its own. Fifty-five counties. Fifty-five songs. One complete statewide collection.
To everybody who listened, shared, supported, encouraged, streamed, bought music, bought merch, or helped these songs travel farther than I could have pushed them alone, thank you.
This series would not mean what it means without the people who believed in it.
And to the sheriff’s departments, deputies, families, and communities across West Virginia, thank you for giving me something worth writing about.
This is more than a release.
This is the completion of a statewide tribute.
This is The Sound of the West Virginia Line: County Sheriffs.
All 55 counties. All 55 songs. Complete.
