Any time somebody takes the time to truly look at what I’m building and understand why I’m doing it, that means something to me.
I was recently featured by Crime in America.Net in an article titled “West Virginia Songwriter Praises Law Enforcement Through His Music.” Seeing Cecil Odell Music recognized that way was an honor, especially because the piece understood the heart behind the work. It wasn’t just about songs. It was about the people those songs are written for and the reason they matter.
From the beginning, my goal has been to make music that sounds like home and means something to the people living it. West Virginia is full of places, people, and professions that deserve more than passing attention. They deserve to be seen honestly and respectfully. That is a big part of what drives Cecil Odell Music.
The article highlighted my long-term project, The Sound of the West Virginia Line, a county-by-county music series built around sheriff’s departments and the communities they serve across West Virginia. That project has always been about more than writing county names into songs. It has been about documenting real places, real roads, real pride, and real service one county at a time.
It also meant a lot to see the article recognize my family connection to law enforcement. My father’s service shaped how I look at this work. That background is part of why these songs are written the way they are — with respect, with care, and with a real understanding that behind every badge is a person carrying responsibility that most people never fully see.
The feature also mentioned the vision for The Voice of the West Virginia Line First Responders Relief Fund, which is an important part of the bigger mission behind this music. I’ve always wanted this work to do more than just exist online. I want it to give something back to the people and communities it was written for.
I’m grateful to Crime in America.Net for taking the time to feature Cecil Odell Music and for helping more people see what this project is about.
If you found the music through that article, welcome.
And if you’ve been here supporting the songs, the videos, the releases, and the mission from the beginning, thank you. I don’t take any of it lightly.
There is still more coming.
Cecil Odell
